Your book suggestions, pretty please?

I'm going to have some reading time on my hands over the holidays (woohoo!) and I want a fat stash of books to read, but I need some ideas.  If my Kindle was working properly it would be easy, because I'd have a digital bookstore at my fingertips 24x7. But I am so terribly bummed because my Kindle is broken (the little control button somehow split into 3 pieces) which means I'll need the real hard-copy thing.

I have a long list of things to maybe read, but not sure what's jumping out at me.

Any suggestions?  Your favorite book this year?  Your favorite author ever?  Undiscovered gems?

  1. The librarian recommended The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton to me... ...over 500 pages and is keeping me engrossed this holiday.

  2. Have you read Pride and Prejudice with Zombies? I did and loved it! Also I've heard great things about Amy Sedaris's new book. I think it's called Crafts for Poor People (?). I'm actually rereading Twilight (I know gasp as the sensational teenage-ness of it)but I really do love the series (in book form) so I would always recommend that. Katrina Kennison has a beautiful new book out. One last place I suggest you stop over is to Goddessguidebook.com. It's so amazing and inspiring, and though its not a book, once you get started I would be shocked if you didn't want to read everything there. Ok those are all my recommendations. Have a lovely holiday and sorry about your Kindle!

  3. Either "The Last Unicorn" or "The Innkeeper's Song" by Peter S. Beagle - I love the way he writes, his use of words is just amazing.

Also, the "Emily" books by L.M. Montgomery.

  4. Thanks for the book suggestions everyone! And if anyone has more to add I'll take them!

The good news is that Amazon sent me a replacement for my Kindle - easy peasy, literally within 24 hours. Best customer service experience I've had in a lonnnnng time. So if you're thinking of buying an ereader, consider the Kindle.

  6. I know that I am bit late to the game on this... but I would highly recommend The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.

  7. My friend sent me a link to your blog and its great! I'm also an avid reader like yourself. I think you would really like these books (if you haven't read them already!)

    1. Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen (she has written 3 books that are all great! Garden spells is her first. They aren't series, but all have "magical" elements.)

    2. The Exile of Sara Stevenson: A Historical Novel by Darci Hannah

    3. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers (This is based on a biblical story, and it one of the best romances I've ever read. Its also a period piece!)

Let me know what you think! I would be very excited to hear. Have a great day.
