I wish my name was Violet

I was listening to the radio, to a lovely song, I had no idea who sang it or what song it was, so I was listening for snatches of lyrics that might help me find it later, when I heard the clincher line:

"I wish my name was Clementine," which was just such a great line. Of course it made me think of my online friend's blog: Clementine and the Cactus Tree.

The song turned out to be Clementine, by Sarah Jaffe, so here it is for your enjoyment:

But of course this got me thinking... To wish you had another name, is it to wish that you were someone different, had a different nature? Or is it to lay claim to some facet of yourself that you feel is buried?

If I wished I had another name, what would it be?

I must give this some serious thought, but the first name that sprang to mind was Violet. I like names that are floral and feminine and old fashioned, but also a bit quirky and dark and bohemian. But when it all comes down to it, my name feels like my name and any other name feels false.

So have you ever wished you had another name? And if you wished you had another name, what would it be?

  1. I was always okay with my name, but I think it would be fun to be Sally for a day.
