Have you ever dreamed of writing a book?

I've dreamed of writing a book.  And now I'm dreaming of getting published.  If you're a dreamer too, this post is for you...

Have you heard of NaNoWriMo?  It's National Novel Writing Month and it's this November!

I hadn't heard of it until this year, but if you've ever dreamed of writing a book, please check it out!  The basic idea is writing like a maniac with the goal of producing a first draft of at least 50,000 words in one month.  Sound crazy? Before the last six months I would have said - no way, it's not possible.  Now I can tell you from experience that it is possible.

If you've ever wanted to try writing, this is a great way to jump in.  Quoting from their web site:

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

I'd love to participate in it at some point, but I'm knee deep in writing THIS novel and just can't stop for a whole month to write something new.  Maybe next year?

So I want to know... Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year?  If you are, let me know - I'd like to cheer you on!

  1. My husband did it last year for some great results. I hope he decides to do it again.

  3. Good luck with your dream to publish a Book, I think it would be wonderful. The closest I'm coming is having Blog Books made of my Posts... several of our elderly relatives don't own a computer and this way they can see my Blog Posts and Photos... my Grandkids are delighted to see themselves, our Home and our Adventures in Book form and look through them and share with Friends... I believe it leaves a sweet legacy behind for the Family and Friends to enjoy. Let us know when you attain your Goal!

  4. I didn't try this the past few years as I wasn't really writing any fiction then. But since I've started writing a bit of fiction again this year, I really should do Nano--maybe I will!

  5. @Collected Ideas - You have a husband who is a writer. I pity you! Ha! I only say that because when I'm really in gear the world disappears and I hide in my room.

And go Hausfrau! I hope you do it!
